Lesson 9 โ€” At the Cafeteria

๐Ÿ“–Part 1: Lunch Time

The bell rings. English class is over. It's lunch time! "I'm hungry!" says Peter. "Me too," says Amy. "Let's go to the cafeteria." The four friends walk to the cafeteria together. The cafeteria is very crowded today. "Wow! There are so many students here!" says Mishiko. "Yes, it's always crowded at lunch time," says Alejandro. They look for a place to sit. "Is there an empty table?" asks Amy. "I don't see one," says Peter. "All the tables are full." "Wait! There is one!" says Alejandro. "Look! There's an empty table next to the window." "Where?" asks Peter. "Over there. It's between the door and the big plant," says Alejandro. "I see it! Let's go!" says Amy. They walk quickly to the table. They sit down. "Perfect! There are four chairs," says Mishiko. "And there's a nice view. Look, we can see the playground from here," says Amy. Peter looks around the cafeteria. "There are so many people! Where is the food?" "The food is over there," says Alejandro. "There's a long line." "There are also vending machines in the corner," says Amy. "But the line is faster today." They stand in line. Peter looks at the menu on the wall. "What's for lunch today?" asks Peter. "There is pizza, there are sandwiches, and there is soup," says Mishiko. "I want pizza!" says Peter. "There's also salad and fruit," says Amy. After a few minutes, they get their food. They return to their table. "Be careful, Peter!" says Amy. But it's too late. Peter's tray slips! His juice falls on the floor. "Oh no!" says Peter. "Don't worry," says Alejandro. "I'll help you." Alejandro gets napkins. They clean the floor together. "Thank you, Alejandro," says Peter. "No problem. That's what friends do," says Alejandro. A cafeteria worker comes with a mop. "Are you okay?" she asks. "Yes, thank you. I'm sorry about the mess," says Peter. "It's okay. Accidents happen," says the worker. She cleans the floor. The friends sit down again. Peter is more careful now. "This pizza is delicious!" says Peter. "My sandwich is good too," says Mishiko. "There's a water fountain near the door if you need water," says Amy. "Thanks! I'm thirsty," says Peter. They eat and talk. The cafeteria is noisy but fun. "What do we have after lunch?" asks Mishiko. "I think we have math class," says Alejandro. "Oh no! I don't like math," says Peter. Everyone laughs. "Don't worry, Peter. We can study together after school," says Amy. "Really? Thank you!" says Peter. The bell rings again. Lunch time is over. "Time to go," says Alejandro. They put their trays away and leave the cafeteria together.
